Link here to another interesting article about genetic testing company 23andme and their current battle with the FDA in the United States.
23andme had been provided customers with ancestry-related data and genetic data along with commentary about any possible predispositions. The FDA it seems have become concerned about these types of tests and the number of cost-effective options on the current market. Their preference obviously being that such products move towards obtaining marketing authorisation.
As a result of FDA intervention, 23andme now only provide customers with the basic data excluding any commentary or insights.
I’d love to hear your views on such tests and whether you think they are beneficial, whether they have a future and so on. So contact me on [email protected] with your thoughts and I will look to write a follow up piece with reader responses.
