Pharmacy news from down under last week was an announcement made by Sigma Pharmaceuticals who launched an “exclusive product partnership” with Alliance Boots for the Boots Laboratories skincare portfolio.
In a community pharmacy market where dispensary margins are being squeezed due to advanced price disclosure, many Australian pharmacy owners are looking for ways to combat the impact of PBS reforms. Sigma Pharmaceuticals are one of Australia’s primary wholesalers whose presence in the market is boosted by their retail brands Guardian, Amcal and Amcal Max.
The products which have been agreed to include Optiva, Serum and Serum Lift and Sigma CEO Mark Hooper also stated that they would explore further future collaborations with Alliance Boots.
Apart from being Australian myself and previously being involved in the community pharmacy industry in Australia, this to me is an intriguing collaboration and as such am curious as to what’s next.
