Smaller and brand new wholesale dealers in medicines are naturally unlikely to want to go to the expense of, or take the risk of employing a Responsible Person (RP) as an employee.
The MHRA are therefore well used to encountering the use of so called contract RPs, who are not employees of the wholesaler, but are instead engaged under a technical agreement to provide RP services. The MHRA do not prescribe how often a contract RP should physically visit the wholesale dealers premises to provide guidance and training in Good Distribution Practice (GDP) and to inspect the working procedures against those approved by the MHRA when granting the wholesale dealers license. However it is generally accepted that as a bare minimum such visits should occur at least every 3 months, although more frequent visits soon after starting the business are always advisable and usually beneficial.
In between site visits, my clients and I have found it useful to have planned Skype conversations every 2 to 3 weeks, during which new developments and items of interest can be discussed, and of course urgent items can be discussed at any time by phone or via e-mail.
