Why should we consider a “Dry January” or a “Sober October”?
I like most of my friends like a few stiff Gins or a large glass of Red wine but if we partake to often our livers do not recover. If we then factor in the overindulgence over the festive season the liver is under pressure and it may not have enough time for crucial functions such as the creation of hormones to live!

Our livers convert alcohol into water and carbon dioxide which we urinate and exhale. The body will hold on to useful ingredients such as antioxidants in wine. The metabolism of alcohol also increases the levels of triglycerides in the body and the liver will become “ Fatty “ and will get inflamed and eventually the liver cells will be killed and there will be scar tissue which can lead to cirrhosis

What few people know is that binging on certain foods can lead to “NAFLD” Non- alcoholic fatty liver disease.

So what can we do?

A Dry January or a Sober October can reduce liver fat by 30 %  and the liver can regenerate. Dropping a few extra pounds can also help! Good Luck!
