Pulse wave analysis (PWA) is a non-invasive, valid, reliable and widely used technique to investigate central blood pressure and arterial stiffness. It has been shown by many studies to produce valid reliable results to assess the vascular health of adults and children, carotid arterial stiffness and flow-medicated dilation. The test can be carried out in a pharmacy consultation room a report can be produced to send to the patients GP if a referral is recommended as a result of the screening.  The device looks like a normal blood pressure machine with a small screen and an adjustable cuff which is placed in the same way as a normal on the arm. Patients should be made to feel at rest to prevent false highs or white coat syndrome reading.

By using up-to-date technology the advancement in this field is vast, people are now able to track their own data using s.d cards and a laptop. Giving the patient control of their health and well-being. As the equipment becomes more readily available the monthly check-up could be carried out at home with data being sent to the doctor without the added stress.
