Be careful be kind and be safe! As Easter approaches spare a thought for those who have had their holidays cancelled to care for us.

Essential workers such as nurses and doctors who have worked tirelessly during the pandemic need to be given time to recuperate when we see a fall in the cases in the Summer. The young staff who are still in training have had their careers placed on hold with training being badly affected. These young people have mostly had Covid and many still suffer with “ Long Covid “ yet they work tirelessly to help us all. Their sense of duty and candour is remarkable throughout the adversity.

They often despair at the lack of compliance with the Governments rules and the lack of self-isolation at a critical time when people have had their first dose of the vaccine but have not had the second dose. In the two to three weeks after the first dose, the public is very vulnerable as they have often let their guard down yet their immunity to Covid is not developed enough to protect them. The emotional toll on the health care staff with the constant fear of another wave and the ineffectiveness of the government to effectively police its policies to protect public health is enough for them to consider leaving the profession for good. Let’s ensure they are given time to think, reinstate their training and let them have a work-life balance and encourage them. Be kind to the hospital staff, the supermarket staff, the police, paramedics, pharmacists and delivery drivers to name but a few they are exhausted and whilst many are at home watching their favourite series on the TV or learning new skills whilst still being paid and planning their garden parties over Easter and in the Summer spare a thought for those who are working and who are anxious that we are not yet safe from harm and that our isolation is being lifted too soon. What is a few more weeks to our economy when so much has been public money has been spent and indeed often wasted already. Be careful, be safe and be kind. It is our time to care for others.
