Pregabalin has been removed from NI Formulary

Pregabalin has been removed from the Northern Ireland (NI) Formulary for neuropathic pain due to an increased number of deaths. Prescribers have been advised to use alternative medicines (amitriptyline and gabapentin) for new patients. Pregabalin can still be prescribed to existing patients for whom pregabalin is deemed clinically appropriate. However, these patients should be reviewed and if they are to be taken off pregabalin they should be monitored and their dose stepped down as slowly as is appropriate.
