As RPs, we have always been aware of the importance of using our training, visits and audits to effect positive changes in the practices of our wholesalers. It is important to make people feel as comfortable as possible during our visits so that they speak openly. We are aware of how intimidating a MHRA inspection can appear to be therefore it is important to give clients a practice run , a “Mock inspection style audit “ to prepare them. Regardless of how accessible and open we think we are, on most occasions, we will conduct at least one or two more formal style of audits annually to give the staff and management within the company the experience to prepare them for their next MHRA inspection. The audits we now conduct are process based and this allows us to follow processes in order to identify evidence of compliance with both GDP and SOPs. It allows us to use our knowledge and experience to make judgments and decisions about their processes, services, and the compliance of the individuals. The audit will validate the training, raise some non-conformities which we will relate back to the directive and we make recommendations on how to address these. We are not sure that it is always an enjoyable experience, but we do believe that, as providers of RP services, we are not doing our job properly if we fail to address non-conformities and effect positive outcomes. The regulators and our RPs all want the same thing in the end, which is the absolute best quality of service and medicine or device supply to customers, who expect our wholesalers to be compliant with GDP and rely on the services our wholesalers provide. Ultimately we want to deliver a” Quality Service” and “Patient Safety”.
