Is it time to trust each other and work together?

As some vaccinations moved to delivery through the community pharmacy network, GP groups are vocal in opposing such a move.  Doctors are on record stating that pharmacists were not trained for appropriate counselling and what to do in the event of adverse reactions.  They also believe not having access to a patient’s medical records would inhibit the effectiveness of such a program.

In my eyes, there are two issues here:

  1. The ongoing issue of health practitioners to work together; specifically GPs and Pharmacists
  2. The lack of technological advancement in e-records for patients

Whilst the e-records will become part of the fabric of medical care over time, we must come to a point whereby allied health work together for a common good.  If a pharmacist chooses to take their vaccinations in a pharmacy because it is convenient does it hurt the health system? Is it imperative for a doctor to deliver the vaccination?

Where does this end? And how can these two professions better work together?
