CPAP machines and Covid -19

CPAP machines normally used for sleep apnoea are being mass-produced by Mercedes F1 in collaboration with University College London. The CPAP machines have been approved by the MHRA after clinical trials.

CPAP push air/oxygen mix into the mouth and nose, helping to keep the alveoli open after the patient breaths out,  facilitating oxygenation and making breathing easier.

CPAP is less invasive and does not require specialist nursing and intensive monitoring. This collaborative response to help NHS patients also involved clinicians in Italy and China who shared their experiences and as a result, CPAP is now part of the NHS guidance for Covid-19 pneumonia.
