Pharmacists and wholesalers should be monitoring their sales of Loperamide as it can be abused and there are growing numbers of abusers in the UK and America. In therapeutic doses Loperamide works peripherally, however, in higher doses it can pass through the blood brain barrier and this can lead to mood-changing effects such as euphoria. In addition, these pleasant side effects can counter the unpleasant side effects experienced on the withdrawal of Opiates.

Pharmacies and Wholesalers should look out for unusually high usage and unusually high orders.
