It was announced this week that Hepatitis Australia has recommended to the Government to allow community based prescribing and dispensing of Hepatitis C medications. This would mirror the current treatment for people living with HIV and would move these patients into community healthcare as opposed to hospital patients.
The logistics to undertake such a move is difficult and will require new listings of treatments on the PBS along with additional training and the establishment of treatment points. The move has been seen as way to end the epidemic over the next generation.
What is your opinion on this model of delivery treatment?
Can the medical community deal with such a condition in this manner?
