Following on from news of the Co-Op’s decision to sell of its 750 pharmacies, Chemist & Druggist reported that a private consortium has raised approximately £40 m of the targeted £60 m required to commence their negotiations with the group.
Whilst the group has an asking price of £600 m a lower sale price may be achieved given the circumstances and overall market conditions. We do know however that negotiations with other supermarkets chains including Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys may create a price war. What the proposed sales does predict is a shake-up of the pharmacy market.
But what does the sale of 750 outlets to a private consortium mean for the future of pharmacy?
One can only wonder the plans for the group that the consortium has. Are you interested in joining the consortium? Would you invest?
What we do know is that the market will keenly follow the pursuit of these sites and the actions of the consortium.
