Clinical Trials: How is a vaccine approved?

How is a vaccine approved? The clinical trials process is a thorough one. Typically the clinical trials and approval process for a vaccine takes around 10 years. However with Covid-19 this process was accelerated considerably and the approval was through in under a year. This was achieved by collaboration between many different organisations.

The route to approval is normally linear, that is one phase has to be completed before the next one starts. Because of the pandemic, different phases were completed in parallel, meaning they took place at the same time. The BBC have created the graphic below explaining the process.

Testimonials

I attended one of the first virtual GDP Responsible Person Cogent “Gold Standard” training sessions due to the Covid-19 social distancing requirements. regardless of the circumstances the training was well organised and delivered to the required standard. This is why I recommended my associates to utilise PCL. Thank you Ryan, Sally, Adel and Jackie.
