Scientists have released results of trials using a patient’s own immune cells to treat leukaemia, and they may have made a major breakthrough! It is very early days and the side effects are severe however The patients had previously failed all other treatments.

Cancer was also reduced in six out of seven patients whose cancer had spread.

The specialised immune cells taken from patients with blood cancers, were removed and re-engineered them to kill cancer cells, after injecting the modified cells back in the patients’ body.

Could it be that Immune memory of cells might help to prevent cancer reoccurring?
