Personal Health Budgets

Norman Lamb, Care and Support Minister, has launched a consultation to gather views on how personal health budgets should be rolled out across the country.

Make sure you have your say …..

Personal health budgets should give patients more control over the treatment they receive and allow them to employ carers directly. The budget will be accessed through their local NHS. The aim is to give patients freedom and to allow them to be involved in the planning of their own care.

The independent evaluation of personal health budgets has shown an improvement in people’s quality of life and referrals to hospital has reduced.

It is the objective of the Commissioning Board to make sure that they are offered to those that could benefit from a personal health budget.

Pharmacy Consulting believe Pharmacy could benefit from the roll out of these personal health budgets by collaborating with carers and being involved when patients need more support when prescribed new medicines or have flare ups of their conditions and need more medication and care.

Collaborative working is the key. Submit your thoughts here.
