It is quite easy to think that Brexit must have been done by now, but the reality is that it isn’t. I was reminded of this doing my trawl through the daily GOV.UK Brexit email. Whilst much of the content of these emails are not relevant, I am still seeing regular notifications relating to both medicinal products and medical devices. Monday’s email included information about a slew of changes across many sectors that included IP rights and the publication of regulations that place the transitional position on IP into permanent law. Why is this relevant? Well, if you are involved in the parallel import market this has crucial implications for the continuation of your business model and more importantly for cost of medicines to the NHS. In this case the good news is that there is no change to the interim provision. However, this did remind me of the importance of continuing to monitor these resources, yes it’s another email to read each day but making sure you are on top of developments can save time and cost in the future.
