PPRS – It has arrived and  will be in place for 5 years from the first of January 2014! What are the overarching principals?

The aim is to have deliver a single holistic , UK pricing agreement that underpins the pricing of  branded medicines to the NHS . It is the mutual intent that neither the department of Health nor Industry will seek to abuse the mechanism. The assumption is that prices at launch will be set at the level that is close to their expected value as assessed by NICE. Industry must adhere to the best practice guidelines and to notify product shortages and discontinuations as before.

PPRS aims  to provide both stability and predictability to both The Government and Industry, to ensure that the cost of branded medicines is kept within know affordable limits, while not blocking access to innovative medicines which afford desired outcomes for patients. It  should help the Government to deliver innovation and growth agenda for Life Sciences.

In 2016 their will be review undertaken  of the scheme completed and  after analysing the results any changes will be mutually agreed.

How will it affect you ?
