Should blood test be carried out on Practitioners before they deliver services in a clinic? How do we screen our staff at the recruitment stage?

If you have opened a clinic or are delivering services from your pharmacy, dentist or surgery and hired locums or permanent staff to work with your patients, would you consider screening them for any infectious diseases before they start work, or at regular intervals if they are at risk? What test would you do? Where does your liability start and stop as an employer? British Airways have paid a large undisclosed sum of money to children who have been abused by one of their pilots. In Scotland, NHS Lanarkshire are leading a massive patient engagement exercise to try to contact all patients who had a surgical procedure whilst having hepatitis C. [1]
