The General Pharmaceutical Council to Reinstate full CPD revalidation – The Government recently announced that the emergency powers that were put in place by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care to help with the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be removed later this year.
In a recent letter to registrants, the GPHC stated that following this announcement they would be reinstating the full revalidation requirements as from 1 October 2022.
Revalidation is the process of helping you record and reflect on what you have done throughout the past registration year and helps to keep your knowledge and skills up to date.
After 1st October 2022 new registrants and registrants who are renewing will need to submit:
- Four CPD records (two of which must be planned events)
- One peer discussion
- One reflective account
The GPHC is recommending that registrants log into their myGPhC accounts and check the revalidation progress. This will endure that you are ready in good time to make a full submission in time.
What is Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Continuing Professional Development is an ongoing process and keeping your skills and knowledge current and up to date is a vital part of your career. In addition, you should be reflecting on how your learning is benefitting users of your services and recording all updates in your revalidation record.
The GPHC recommends recording what you have done so as to update and keep your knowledge/skills relevant and follow current best practices. This is to ensure that you are better able to reflect on how your learning has benefited users of the services you provide.
This record will give you evidence to support your re-evaluation, peer discussions, and your reflective account. Keeping your record up to date will also ensure that you are ready to submit your complete revalidation record as soon as your renewal window opens for renewing your registration.

‘ Quote’ – ‘We are currently reviewing the three standards we ask you to choose from to complete your reflective account. We will announce any new reflective account standards in May 2022.
We expect you to use these to write the reflective account you include in your next revalidation submission after October 2022.
We would also encourage you to reflect on your experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, although this is not essential.
If you have any questions about what you need to do, please see the revalidation section of the main GPhC website.’
