Transferring ownership of a pharmacy business?

by | Dec 15, 2015 | Blog

In the old days life was oh so simple to buy, sell or transfer ownership. ODS codes were created and applied quickly. However, EPS has added complication to this process. It may be National Health service England (NHSE) and National Health Services Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) are not quite aligned on how things work.

It will take the NHSE and NHBSA 14 day or longer to create a new ODS code and for all the required agencies to make the changes, align and switch on the new account number. Plan ahead and all will be well.

Why plan ahead and what process, what agencies you may ask?

Here at least is part of the journey for the communications and ODS code – NHSE, NHSBSA, NHSE, PPA/NHS prescription services, spine, NHS choices and then other agencies including PMS/PMR suppliers. And then Smartcards need to be updated locally by pharmacists/technicians through the local RA Agent NEL Commissioning Support Unit.

It has been said that the seller’s old ODS code and therefore spine access will remain live for 2 weeks until the new ODS code is itself made live. Not any longer the NHSBSA have stopped this process.

Confused, try and work though the process yourself.
