Alzheimer’s can affect any one of us or our relatives at any time, and the result is always devastating to everyone involved.

The Alzheimer’s Research Council have announced plans to launch a £30 million drug discovery project to be driven by the Universities of Cambridge, Oxford and London to research new treatments.

Alzheimer’s affects over 830,000 people in the UK yet there has been little increase in research funding and a lack of effective treatments with the last of the treatments being approved, in the UK, more than 10 years ago.

Health Leaders have pledged that by 2025 they are aiming to deliver disease modifying therapy for dementia.

Let’s hope that pioneering medicines can be developed that can change the outlook of this devastating condition.
