Will unique device identifiers(UDIs) help to keep patients safe and allow the FDA and European Competent Authorities identify problems with devices faster or are they more use in insurance claims, details held in electronic health records, and device registries? It is hard to know, and their use on medicine packaging, has to be implemented by February 2016 in the UK and is hoped to help reduce the incidence of falsified medicines.
