What is CPAF and Contract Monitoring?

Have you had a NHS England Contact Monitoring Inspection yet? The Community Pharmacy Assurance Framework questionnaire for 2016/2017 is available on the PSNC website. If your pharmacy is based in England, then remember to complete it as soon as possible. The results of this screening questionnaire, along with other locally held information, will help NHS England local teams to identify which pharmacies should be considered for a contract monitoring visit and asked to complete the full CPAF questionnaire.

You must be aware that the regulators do share information about you so if you have had a bad MHRA or GPhC inspection then they may have shared this information.

In addition, if you have a “Fitness to Practice” case against you or you are under an investigation by the MHRA you must inform NHS England.

Up to 5% of pharmacies will be visited throughout the course of the year including those visited to validate their self-assessments and those who are visited following completion of the full CPAF questionnaire.
A pharmacy must allow persons authorised in writing by NHS England to enter and inspect the pharmacy to ascertain whether or not the pharmacist is complying with the requirements of their terms of service. The pharmacist can request the LPC to be present at the inspection.

Pharmacists should plan carefully so as not to impact negatively on the day-to-day running of the pharmacy and inspection teams should not expect to have the pharmacist devoted to them during any visit, nor should any inspection disrupt the concentration of pharmacy staff in the provision of care to patients.
