Pharmacy services – COPD screening

by | Feb 17, 2015 | Community Pharmacy

Community Pharmacists are well able to identify people at risk of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease at an early stage.

More than half of people screened by pharmacies were identified at high risk of COPD.

Throughout 2012 and 2013 the pilot screening finding was installed in some community pharmacies and smokers and patients were invited to do participate to the screening test and a disease risk-assessment questionnaire.
A tragic amount of people were found to be at risk of having undiagnosed COPD and were sent to their GP to confirm it. The Pilot Evaluation was established by multiple and well known pharmacies during 2011.

It is now, 2015, and in England more than 200,000 smokers who are at risk of COPD have been identified through the scheme. Is this something you could offer?

Are you a community pharmacist? Are you interested to help your patients as soon as possible? Could you take part in this model?
